Back in 1953, Ern and other's realized the need for fire protection in Fairfield Township. With their dedication and undying will to help others, Fairfield Twp. Vol. Fire Co. #1 was born. These guys put in countless hours having meetings, scrounging up the money and putting everything together, not to mention on the line, to purchase fire apparatus and eventually build the former fire station.Charter Member Ern Henderson

This flag, from what we know was used at the first groundbreaking/open house of the Fairfield Twp. Vol. Fire Co. The flag stood over the membership through meetings and functions since then. Remarkably, it survived the fire at the station, and stands tall to this day.Old Glory Still Stands

Those of you that know Uncle Ern (we refer to him as uncle ern) know he is a man of few but many words. Ern attends most all of the department functions and has recently decided to step down from full firefighting. However, he still responds on calls and helps out as needed. Ern always has a story to lighten the mood and always has an ear for those who wish to talk. Thank you Ern, without you and the others, we wouldn't be where we are at today.A man of few words
